Troops Rescue Nine Kidnapped Persons and Recover 56 Rustled Livestock in Katsina

Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued nine kidnapped victims, recovered 56 rustled animals, and apprehended a suspected terrorist during separate operations across Katsina State.

The military operations, which spanned several local government areas, were executed based on credible intelligence reports.

In Faskari Local Government Area, troops on a fighting patrol intercepted and rescued nine individuals, including three women, four men, and two children. Preliminary findings indicate the victims had been abducted on July 9, 2026, along the Tsafe–Kuchere Road in Zamfara State. The victims managed to escape from their captors’ camp while the terrorists were asleep, after which they were secured by the advancing troops. They are currently receiving care ahead of their reunification with their families.

In a separate development in Bakori Local Government Area, the joint task force thwarted an attempt by criminal elements to steal livestock. Upon spotting the military unit, the suspects initiated a gunfight but were forced to retreat into nearby bushes due to superior military firepower. The retreating gunmen abandoned 56 stolen animals, consisting of four cattle and 52 sheep, which are now being held by authorities pending formal return procedures.

Additionally, military personnel apprehended a suspected terrorist during an operation in Danmusa Local Government Area. Documents and items found with the suspect suggest active links to terrorist networks, and an investigation is currently underway.

Leadership within Operation FANSAN YAMMA praised the personnel for their vigilance and reiterated the military’s commitment to maintaining intelligence-driven operations to eradicate banditry and terrorism in the North-West region.
