Trump announces Ohio senator, JD Vance as running mate

Former U.S. President, Donald Trump on Monday announced Ohio Senator, JD Vance as his running mate for the November presidential election.
Trump announced the choice of Vance as his running mate on his Truce Social.
He said after lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, he had decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio.
Trump said J.D. honorably served the country in the Marine Corps, graduated from Ohio State University in two years, Summa Cum Laude, and is a Yale Law School Graduate, where he was Editor of The Yale Law Journal, and President of the Yale Law Veterans Association.
“J.D.’s book, ‘Hillbilly Elegy,’ became a Major Best Seller and Movie, as it championed the hardworking men and women of our Country. J.D. has had a very successful business career in Technology and Finance, and now, during the Campaign, will be strongly focused on the people he fought so brilliantly for, the American Workers and Farmers in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Minnesota, and far beyond….”
“….As Vice President, J.D. will continue to fight for our Constitution, stand with our Troops, and will do everything he can to help me MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN. Congratulations to Senator J.D. Vance, his wife, Usha, who also graduated from Yale Law School, and their three beautiful children. MAGA2024,” Trump stated.
The CNN reports that the decision further elevated Vance, who has adopted the former president’s populist agenda after years of pointed criticism of Trump.
Vance, a venture capitalist and the author of the best-selling memoir “Hillbilly Elegy,” was elected to the US Senate in 2022 after receiving a boost from Trump in a contentious Republican primary.

American Airlines Plane Catches Fire at Denver Airport, 178 Evacuated

A fire broke out on an American Airlines plane at Denver International Airport (DIA) on Thursday evening, prompting an emergency evacuation of all 178 passengers and crew members. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, was at Gate C38 when visible smoke was reported, triggering a swift response from emergency teams.
According to an official statement from American Airlines, the plane had safely landed from Colorado Springs and was scheduled to continue to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport before an engine-related issue forced passengers to evacuate via emergency slides.
“No injuries have been reported, and the fire was quickly extinguished,” the Denver airport authorities confirmed. Photos from the scene show passengers standing on the aircraft’s wing as smoke engulfed the plane.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are expected to conduct a full investigation into the incident.

Natasha drags Nigerian Senate President Akpabio to IPU over suspension, sexual harassment
The embattled senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has taken Nigerian Senate President Godswill Akpabio to the Inter-Parliamentary Union, IPU, over her six-month suspension and allegations of sexual harassment.
Speaking at the Women in Parliament session at the United Nations in New York, Natasha informed the IPU of her alleged victimisation by Akpabio.
In an emotional speech, the senator sought justice and called for the intervention of global democratic institutions.
She described her suspension from the Senate as “unlawful” and an act of injustice against her.
Following her speech, she expressed concerns for her safety, claiming that “the powers that be” in Nigeria might attempt to detain her in New York for speaking out on the issue at the global event.
Recall that in March, the Nigerian Senate announced Senator Natasha’s suspension following recommendations from its Committee on Ethics, Rules, and Code of Conduct.
As a consequence of her suspension, she will not receive a salary, will be barred from entering the National Assembly premises, and will not be allowed to refer to herself as a senator during the suspension period.
