Two close friends and longstanding members of Anthony Joshua’s team have been confirmed as the fatalities in the boxer’s road accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Monday.

Joshua’s promoter, Matchroom Boxing, identified the deceased as Sina Ghami, his strength and conditioning coach of over ten years, and personal trainer Latif “Latz” Ayodele. Both were in the vehicle with the former world heavyweight champion when the crash occurred.

“With profound sadness, it has been confirmed that two close friends and team members Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele have tragically passed away,” the promotion stated, adding that Joshua sustained injuries and remains hospitalized in stable condition under observation.

The accident happened around 11 a.m. near Makun, Sagamu. According to witness accounts, Joshua’s Lexus SUV, part of a two-vehicle convoy, lost control and collided with a stationary truck. A passenger beside the driver and the occupant seated next to Joshua died instantly.

Sina Ghami was a qualified sports rehabilitator and co-founder of Evolve Gym in London, having worked with elite athletes across multiple sports. Latif Ayodele was Joshua’s personal trainer, known for his dedication to fitness and faith, frequently appearing with the boxer on social media.

Preliminary findings from the Federal Road Safety Corps attribute the crash to excessive speed and wrongful overtaking. The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating the deceased have been taken to a morgue in Sagamu and that an investigation is ongoing.

Tributes have poured in online for Ghami and Ayodele, as messages of support continue for Joshua, who was born to Nigerian parents and attended school in nearby Ikenne.
