Two nabbed for theft, illegal gun possession in Nasarawa

The Nasarawa State Police Command has taken two suspects into custody for alleged criminal conspiracy, trespass, theft, and unlawful possession of firearms in Keffi Local Government Area.

The incident came to light on Saturday at about 10:30 a.m., when a resident of Keffi reported at the Keffi Divisional Headquarters that one of the suspects had entered his room illegally and stolen his Android phone. The complainant raised an alarm, but the suspect managed to flee with the device.

Detectives attached to the division promptly launched an intelligence-led operation, which led to the arrest of the principal suspect along with another male resident of Mayanka in Keffi.

A search conducted on the suspects uncovered several incriminating items, including a locally made pistol loaded with one live cartridge, two sharp cutlasses, a knife, two Tecno Android phones, one Itel mobile phone, and a bunch of keys.

The two suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue to determine whether they are linked to other criminal activities in the area.

The Commissioner of Police, Shetua Jauro-Mohammed, praised the officers involved for their quick response and professionalism. He also reassured residents of the command’s dedication to protecting lives and property and urged the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support crime-fighting efforts.

This operation comes shortly after police in Imo State dismantled a suspected IPOB/ESN enclave in Nguru, Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area, where they recovered General-Purpose Machine Guns, thousands of rounds of ammunition, and surveillance drones.
