UBEC Expands Kano Basic Education with 4,000 Classrooms and Teacher Recruitment

The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has announced a major expansion of basic education infrastructure in Kano State, constructing nearly 4,000 classrooms and backing extensive teacher recruitment efforts to tackle shortages across the state.

UBEC Executive Secretary Aisha Garba disclosed the intervention during a joint inspection of educational projects in Kano alongside Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa, Minister of State for Education Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, and Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf.

Garba noted that providing safe, modern infrastructure must be paired with hiring qualified educators to address learning gaps, particularly in underserved and rural areas. She highlighted Kano State’s recruitment drive which has brought in more than 16,000 teachers to date as one of the country’s most significant investments in the teaching workforce.

Chairman of the Kano State Universal Basic Education Board, Yusuf Kabir, assured that the selection process followed strict merit-based criteria and that the newly appointed educators will be deployed to high-need areas with enhanced supervision and monitoring systems.
