VIDEO: Vice President Shettima Leads Pigeon Release at Armed Forces Remembrance Day Vice
Vice President Kashim Shettima led the symbolic release of pigeons on Thursday during the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day ceremony, an annual event honoring Nigeria’s fallen military personnel.
The ceremony, held on January 15, saw the Vice President joined by other top officials including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Chief Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, and Deputy Speaker of the House Benjamin Kalu.
The release of the birds served as a traditional gesture symbolizing the nation’s commitment to peace, unity, and freedom values upheld by the armed forces.
Armed Forces Remembrance Day is observed each year to pay tribute to members of the Nigerian military who lost their lives in service, from the Civil War to recent peacekeeping and counter-terrorism operations.
