VIDEO:Badenoch Expels Robert Jenrick Over Defection Plot
Kemi Badenoch, leader of the Conservative Party, has removed Robert Jenrick from the Shadow Cabinet and withdrawn the party whip after receiving evidence he was planning to defect.
In a statement on Thursday, Badenoch said the decision was based on “clear, irrefutable evidence” that Jenrick intended to leave the party in a manner designed to undermine colleagues. She stated that her responsibility as leader required decisive action to protect the party’s integrity.
“The British public are tired of political drama, and so am I,” Badenoch added, emphasizing that loyalty and discipline are essential as the party works to rebuild following its general election loss last year. She confirmed Jenrick’s party membership has also been suspended.
The move underscores the Conservative leadership’s focus on enforcing unity as it seeks to regroup in opposition. Badenoch stated her priority remains holding the government to account and presenting a clear alternative to voters.
