Wanted Terrorist Leader Claims Infiltration of Security Forces in Leaked Audio

A suspected terrorist leader, Kachalla Maha, who is wanted for masterminding numerous violent attacks across Katsina State, has claimed in a leaked audio recording that members of the Nigerian security forces are working on his behalf

In the recording, which captures a conversation between the insurgent and a figure linked to the government, Maha alleges that he receives advance intelligence regarding military operations, including strategic planning. He claims that security personnel deployed to dismantle his camps are providing him with operational details, asserting, “All the security forces being sent to attack my camp are my boys.

The audio, which has circulated widely, provides a troubling look into the challenges facing regional security. During the exchange, the government-linked individual repeatedly urged the insurgent to cease his activities and engage in peace initiatives. In response, however, Maha threatened further violence against surrounding villages, accusing the government and local communities of acting with bias against him

Maha’s grievances centered on the arrest of his associates and the seizure of his livestock by state authorities. He justified his retaliatory actions by accusing local residents of collaborating with security forces to provide intelligence that led to the death of his followers

The conversation also highlights the severe breakdown of trust, with the terrorist commander questioning the loyalty of the officers he allegedly communicates with. “Tell me honestly before God: among the security officers I talk to, is there any who doesn’t secretly give me information or work with one side or another?” he asked

The government representative denied that the state government was responsible for the specific arrests or the seizure of property in question, while maintaining that the ongoing violence is inflicting widespread suffering across the state. Despite the government official’s attempts to urge repentance and a cessation of hostilities, the conversation ended with the insurgent conditioning any potential peace on the return of his seized property and the release of his associates

This development underscores the complex security situation in Northern Nigeria, where concerns regarding the infiltration of security structures and the effectiveness of current counter-insurgency efforts continue to dominate public discourse.
