Water Supply Disrupted for Key Lagos Areas Due to Urgent Plant Repairs

Residents across several major areas of Lagos are facing water supply shortages following an emergency shutdown of the Adiyan I Water Treatment Plant.

The Lagos Water Corporation (LWC) announced the temporary closure to undertake critical repairs on a major raw water pipeline at the Akute Intake Station. The work is addressing a significant leak that has been saturating the surrounding soil.

According to the LWC, the compromised ground stability poses a safety risk to heavy machinery required for both the repairs and the adjacent Adiyan Phase II construction project.

The disruption is expected to impact a wide range of neighborhoods, including:

· Ikeja, Magodo, Akiode, Oregun, Ketu, and Ojota.
· Maryland, Ogudu, Gbagada, and Shomolu.
· Ojuelegba, Oyingbo, and Ijora Olopa.
· Agege and parts of Lagos Island.

In a statement, the Corporation apologized for the inconvenience and assured the public that crews are working to complete the repairs swiftly. Normal water supply will resume immediately after the work is finished.

The shutdown underscores the persistent infrastructural challenges facing the city’s water network, leaving residents and businesses to brace for another period of unreliable supply.
