Wike Assures Abuja Residents That Political Transition Won’t Halt Development Projects

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed that infrastructure development across Abuja will continue uninterrupted, despite the intensifying political climate leading up to the 2027 general elections.

Wike provided these assurances on Tuesday during the official flag-off ceremony for the construction of service carriageways for the Southern Parkway, stretching from Arterial Road S20 (Oladipo Diya Way) to Ring Road II. The project is part of a series of infrastructure initiatives launched to commemorate the third anniversary of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Addressing concerns that the approaching election cycle might shift the government’s focus away from public works, the Minister stated that the FCT administration remains fully committed to its developmental mandate. “Politics or no politics, we must continue to do that which Mr. President has directed to ensure that we change the entire landscape of the Federal Capital Territory,” Wike declared.

The Minister expressed confidence that Abuja would undergo a significant infrastructural transformation before the end of the President’s first term in May 2027. He emphasized that these ongoing road and utility projects are essential to improving transportation, enhancing the daily quality of life for residents, and modernizing the nation’s capital.

The ceremony was attended by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, who represented the President. The Southern Parkway project represents a core component of the current FCT administration’s strategy to address urban congestion and expand infrastructure capacity throughout the territory.
