Wilfred Afolabi Assumes Office as 35th Abia Police Commissioner, Vows Crackdown on Indiscipline

Wilfred Afolabi has officially assumed duty as the 35th Commissioner of Police in Abia State, taking over leadership from Danladi Isa, who was recently promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police.

Upon assuming office on Monday, Afolabi outlined a strategic agenda aimed at bolstering public safety, aligning closely with directives from Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun. Key priorities for his administration include deepening existing security structures, expanding intelligence networks, mapping crime hotspots, enhancing officer welfare, and restoring public trust.

The new police chief also emphasized state election preparedness and noted that the command would review and upgrade its active crime prevention strategies.

Afolabi issued a firm warning regarding officer discipline and ethics, identifying capacity building and professional mentoring as primary tools to reform conduct within the rank and file. However, he cautioned that willful misconduct and severe abuses of power would face strict disciplinary measures, including dismissal.

He clarified that while minor operational lapses would be addressed through mentoring and retraining, grave offenses such as the unlawful use of firearms against civilians would be met with zero tolerance and full legal consequences.
