YouTube takes down Seyi Vibez’s new video over copyright claim

YouTube has removed the video for ‘Different Pattern,’ a popular song by Seyi Vibez, as part of a major copyright enforcement effort.

This happened because the song’s introduction used samples without permission.

The introduction to ‘Different Pattern’ includes parts from songs by two late Nigerian music legends: highlife artist Orlando Owoh and Apala pioneer Musiliu Haruna Ishola.

‘Different Pattern’ was a highlight of Vibez’s EP ‘NAHAMciaga,’ which came out in December 2023. The EP soon went viral and was reportedly among Nigeria’s most-streamed songs in 2024.

The video was taken down from YouTube early this morning.

The copyright claim points to the unapproved use of Owoh’s music.

‘Different Pattern’ came out under Vibez’s old label, Dapper Music. He left the label in September 2024 and now runs his own, Vibez INC.

Seyi Vibez is known for sampling classic Nigerian songs and mixing them with today’s street culture to create his unique sound.s previous project ‘Billion Dollar Baby,’ he famously sampled gospel singer Sola Allyson’s ‘Eji Owuro’.
