Zamfara Gov Lawal Appoints Aminu Atiku New Emir Of Zurmi

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has approved the appointment of Alhaji Aminu Atiku as the new Emir and Sarkin Zamfaran Zurmi of the Zurmi Emirate Council.

The Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, announced the appointment on Monday, saying it followed consultations and the recommendation of the Zurmi Emirate kingmakers, in line with the state’s traditions, customs and relevant laws.

Aminu Atiku becomes the 21st Sarkin Zamfaran Zurmi, succeeding Alhaji Bello Suleiman, who died on August 31, 2026.

The new Emir, who holds the traditional title of Dangaladiman Zurmi, is the eldest son of the 19th Emir of Zurmi, the late Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

He previously served as Sole Administrator of Zurmi Local Government Council.

Governor Lawal congratulated the new monarch and urged him to build on the legacy of his predecessors by promoting peace, justice, unity and the welfare of the people.

Lawal described the Zurmi Emirate, established centuries ago by the Alibawa clan, as an important part of Zamfara’s history, with a heritage rooted in scholarship, justice and service.

The governor also tasked the new Emir with fostering unity and peaceful coexistence among communities within the emirate.

He urged the monarch to work closely with the state government and security agencies to strengthen peace and security in the area.

Lawal assured Aminu Atiku of the state government’s support, expressing confidence that his reign would contribute to the stability and development of Zurmi Emirate and Zamfara State.
