Atiku Appoints El-Rufai, Tambuwal to ADC Campaign Council

Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has approved the composition of the party’s Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The campaign structure, described by the campaign as lean and people-driven, will be chaired by Kashim Ibrahim-Imam, while former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, will serve as Deputy Chairman.

Senator Austin Akobundu has been appointed Director-General and Campaign Manager, with responsibility for coordinating the council’s strategy and operations.

The council will have six Deputy Directors-General overseeing its operational directorates, supported by 30 Directors assigned specific responsibilities.

Former ThisDay publisher, Dele Momodu, will head Media and Communications, while former Kogi State Senator, Dino Melaye, will lead Contact and Mobilisation.

Mohammed Hayatudeen will chair the Policy Team, which includes Professor Mohammed Sagagi and Professor Kingsley Moghalu, among others.

Former Edo State Governor and pioneer National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, John Oyegun, will chair the Campaign Advisory Board.

In a statement signed by Phrank Shaibu, Director of Strategic Communication of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council and Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication to Atiku, the campaign said the structure was designed with clear responsibilities and accountability.

“This is a structure built for work. Every directorate has a duty. Every director has an assignment. Every appointee must account for results,” the statement said.

It added that the council would measure its performance by how effectively it addresses issues including the cost of living, unemployment, insecurity and declining purchasing power.

“Our measure of success will be how clearly we address the cost of living, unemployment, insecurity and declining purchasing power—and how effectively we organise to make Nigeria affordable again,” it said.

The announcement comes as the ADC continues preparations for the 2027 presidential election, with Atiku and his running mate, Rotimi Amaechi, already submitted by the party to INEC as its presidential and vice-presidential candidates.
