2 Die In Ondo Auto Crash

Two passengers lost their lives in an auto crash that occurred along Federal Government Girls College (FGGC) in Ondo.
Ezekiel Son Allah, sector commander of the Ondo Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), said the accident occurred on Sunday.
Son Allah said the crash was between a Mercedes Benz truck and a motorcycle, adding that two persons died, while another passenger sustained injuries.
“There was an accident on Sunday. It was along Federal Government Girls College (FGGC) in Akure,” he said.
“It was between a truck and a motorcycle. Two people died — one male child and one female adult. The motorcycle rider sustained injuries.”
He said the accident was caused by over-speeding which led to loss of control by the truck driver.
The sector commander added that the corpse of the dead passengers were deposited at the mortuary of the State Specialist Hospital in Akure.

Zamfara: Bandits kill six community guards, four vigilantes
Six operatives of the Zamfara State Community Protection Guards (CPG) popularly known as Askarawa and four local vigilantes were reportedly killed in an ambush by bandits in Anka Local Government Area on Saturday.
According to sources, the operatives were returning from a successful joint operation led by the Nigerian Army, which resulted in the killing of several bandits.
However, as they made their way back, they were ambushed by some recalcitrant bandits, leading to the tragic loss of ten lives.
Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, confirmed the killing of security operatives in the ambush.
In a statement written in the Hausa language on his verified Facebook page, the governor disclosed that the victims were part of a team that had conducted an operation alongside military personnel in Anka before they were attacked around Bagega axis.
Governor Lawal further revealed that six members of the Community Protection Guards (CPGs) and four local vigilantes also known as “Yan Sakai” lost their lives in the ambush.
He added that three persons are still missing including two members of the community Protection Guards and one local vigilante.
“I got information that gunmen ambushed some Zamfara State Community Protection Guards (CPG) in Anka Local Government. The incident occurred yesterday when security forces and the State Community Protection Guards (CPG) led by the Nigerian Army attacked the hideouts of the bandits and successful neutralized several bandits and recovered their weapons,” he stated.
“The information made available to me that on their way back that when the bandits ambushed them at Bagega and open fire on them killing six Zamfara Community Protection Guards (CPG) and four Yansakai which their burial was conducted Sunday’s morning.
“There are three people that are missing among them, which two are CPG members while one Yansakai. When I learned of the incident, I gave a directive that immediate medical assistance should be offered to the injured persons while the families of those who loss their lives be provided immediate relief materials.
“I prayed that accept the souls of those who paid the Supreme sacrifice in order to protect their communities. May God comfort their families. I prayed God to end the security challenge in Zamfara State, North and Nigeria as a whole.”
Zamfara is one of the states in the North-West and North-Central regions that is worst hit by banditry.
While several lives have been lost, many have been displaced as the bandits keep wreaking havoc in communities.
Despite efforts of security operatives, they continue to launch attacks.

Policeman goes berserk and kills four passersby in Calabar South

Pandemonium erupted at Atakpa near the popular Calabar Watt Market in Calabar South local government area of Cross River State on Sunday, March 23, following the killing of four passersby allegedly by an armed policeman.
According to eyewitnesses, the officer went berserk, firing several gunshots into the air and the bullets mistakenly hit the victims, killing them instantly.
“The victims were innocent and passersby who did not have any quarrel with the police officer. I suspect the officer ran amok,” an eyewitness said
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Cross River State Command, SP Irene Ugbo, said
“The officer misbehaved we suspect he has become mentally unstable.This is what we suspect at a moment”
The PPRO stressed that the Command was trying to unravel the mystery behind the shooting of the innocent victims.

Lagos man in police net for stabbing wife to death

The police in Lagos state have arrested a man identified as Peter Dike for allegedly stabbing his 38-year-old wife to death during a heated argument at their apartment in the Oke Ira Ilogbo Eremi community, Morogbo, Lagos State on March 19.
According to eyewitnesses, Dike and his wife had a serious argument that degenerated into fight.
In the heat of the moment, the suspect allegedly went into their kitchen, picked up a knife and used it to stab his wife.
She lost a lot of blood and d!ed from the inflicted injuries.
Confirming the arrest, the spokesperson of the state police command, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the kitchen knife used has been recovered and the body of the deceased has been deposited at the morgue of General Hospital, Badagry.
He said the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti Yaba.
