500 Northern Islamic Scholars Back Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election Bid, Aide Says
About 500 Islamic scholars and religious leaders from Northern Nigeria have endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term ahead of the 2027 presidential election, according to his Special Adviser on Political and Other Matters, Ibrahim Masari.
The endorsement was announced following a gathering of the Northern Muslim Intellectual Forum in Dutse, Jigawa State, where scholars, clerics, intellectuals and community leaders from the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory met to discuss issues affecting the region.
Participants reportedly reviewed developments in security, infrastructure and economic growth across the North and expressed support for the administration’s efforts in tackling insecurity and promoting development.
The forum concluded with a vote of confidence in President Tinubu and endorsed his re-election bid, citing progress in economic reforms, infrastructure projects, security and national development.
Several prominent political figures attended the event, including governors from Jigawa, Kano, Yobe, Sokoto and Kaduna states, as well as senior federal government officials.
The gathering also called for greater unity, political stability and collaboration among political, religious and community leaders to advance national development.
