Delta Police Smash Crime Wave, Arrest 627 Suspects, Recover 144 Firearms and ₦36m Ransom

Delta State Police Commissioner, Mr. Olufemi Abaniwonda, has announced the arrest of 627 suspects involved in various crimes, including murder, kidnapping, armed robbery, and cultism, between January 2025 and December 2025. The suspects were arrested as part of the command’s proactive, intelligence-driven, and community-centred policing strategy.

Arrests and Recoveries:

– _Murder Suspects:_ 125

– _Kidnapping Suspects:_ 113

– _Armed Robbery Suspects:_ 140

– _Cultism Suspects:_ 187

– _Rape/Defilement Suspects:_ 62

– _Kidnap Victims Rescued:_ 18

– _Vehicles Recovered:_ 28

– _Arms Recovered:_ 144

– _Ransom Recovered:_ ₦36 million

The Commissioner attributed the successes to the command’s collaboration with sister security agencies, vigilante groups, and community stakeholders.

In a recent breakthrough, the police arrested two suspects linked to the murder of retired Justice Ifeoma Okogwu, who was killed in her residence on November 24, 2025. The suspects, Godwin Mngumi and Nnaji Obalum, confessed to the crime and implicated a third suspect still at large.
