Benue Governor Pledges to Clear Pension Arrears by Month End

Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has pledged to clear all outstanding pension and gratuity payments owed to retirees from 2023 to 2025 before the end of January 2026.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the governor affirmed his administration’s consistent payment of salaries and pensions since taking office. He explained that while initial efforts focused on older arrears, the government is now ensuring all retirees from his tenure receive their entitlements.

Separately, Governor Alia addressed the ongoing nationwide strike by resident doctors. He urged for dialogue and negotiation, acknowledging the potential humanitarian impact of the disruption to medical services.

The governor expressed confidence that a resolution was imminent, citing the Federal Government’s efforts to address the doctors’ grievances.
