Fuji Star KWAM1’s Claim to Royal Stool Disputed by Ruling House
The Fusengbuwa Ruling House in Ijebuland has described a protest letter by famed Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM1, as “arrant nonsense.”
KWAM1, through his lawyer, had petitioned Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun. He alleged that the ruling house was using procedures not recognized by law to exclude him from the process to select the next Awujale.
The Vice Chairman of the ruling house, Prof. Fassy Yusuf, dismissed the claims. He stated the family has over 20,000 members and questioned the logic of KWAM1’s grievances. The family has scheduled a nomination meeting for aspirants.
The musician had previously taken the matter to court, seeking to halt the selection process, but withdrew the suit. The ruling house insists KWAM1 is not a member and is therefore ineligible for the throne.
The Awujale stool became vacant in July 2025 following the passing of Oba Sikiru Adetona, who reigned for 65 years. The succession process has attracted significant public interest.
