COAS Urges Troops to Remain Steadfast in Defending Nigeria’s Sovereignty
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has called on troops to remain resolute in safeguarding the nation’s peace, unity, and territorial integrity.
Represented by the Commander of 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ahmed Balogun, the COAS made the call on Saturday during a special Sallah luncheon organised for troops of the Forward Operations Base (FOB) in Sobe, Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State, to mark the Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the brigade, General Shaibu reaffirmed the army’s commitment to boosting troop morale and enhancing inter-agency cooperation through welfare-focused initiatives.
He urged troops to remain resilient and unwavering in their dedication to protecting the nation’s territorial integrity and the lives of citizens. He also commended sister services and other security and intelligence agencies for their collaboration, professionalism, and dedication, which continue to strengthen collective security efforts.
“This is to urge the troops to remain steadfast in the defence of peace, unity, and national sovereignty. They serve in difficult and often demanding environments, far from the comfort of their homes, yet remain steadfast in loyalty and professionalism,” he said.
“Their endurance, sacrifice, and courage represent the true spirit of the Nigerian soldier. We pray for their safety, strength, and success in all ongoing operations, and we look forward to their safe return.”
The COAS further emphasised the importance of synergy among the services, noting that cooperation remains vital to sustaining operational success and national stability.
He also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, for his continued support, leadership, and commitment to the welfare and operational effectiveness of the military.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Commander of FOB Sobe, Lieutenant Colonel Stanley Agboro, described the COAS luncheon as a significant annual event held during festive periods to boost the morale of frontline troops, recognise their sacrifices, honour fallen heroes, and strengthen camaraderie within the force.
He appreciated the Brigade Commander and his entourage for celebrating the Sallah luncheon with the troops. Agboro also acknowledged the Chairperson of Owan West Local Government Area, Joy Ohonyon, represented by the Vice Chairman, Dele Aleburu, as well as the traditional ruler of Sobe, HRH Anthony Ero Aleburu I, and heads of other security agencies for their presence at the event.
The occasion featured a luncheon, cultural dance performances, comedy sketches, and morale-boosting songs by the troops.
