Zulum Donates N50m to Family of Slain Lieutenant Colonel

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has donated N50 million to the family of Lieutenant Colonel OC Okolo, who was killed in a Boko Haram attack on February 16, 2026, at Mandaragirau in Biu Local Government Area.

The governor’s Special Adviser on Security, Brigadier General Abdullahi Sabi Ishaq (retd.), represented Zulum at a funeral service held on April 10, 2026, in Obinofia Ndiuno, Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State, where the donation was presented.

In a statement released on Saturday, Zulum reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the families of military personnel who have lost their lives defending the nation. He also pledged to continue visiting families of other soldiers killed or declared missing in action.

“Lt. Col. OC Okolo was a gallant, dedicated and committed officer of the nation whose contributions will not be forgotten,” Zulum said, extending his condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased officer.

On behalf of the family, Professor Stanley Okulo expressed deep gratitude for the governor’s compassion and solidarity. He noted that the family was particularly moved by the N50 million donation and the delegation sent from Maiduguri to attend the service on short notice.

The funeral was also attended by representatives of the Chief of Army Staff, the Theatre Commander of Operation HADIN KAI, members of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), and members of the host community.

Recently, Zulum had donated N150 million to the families of three military officers killed in separate attacks across the state.
