LeBron James Noncommittal on Future After Lakers’ Playoff Sweep

LeBron James says he has not yet decided on his basketball future after the Los Angeles Lakers were eliminated from the NBA playoffs by the Oklahoma City Thunder in a 4–0 series sweep.

The 41-year-old four-time NBA champion delivered 24 points and 12 rebounds in Monday’s 115–110 loss, but it was not enough to keep the Lakers’ season alive. With his contract now expired, James heads into the offseason as a free agent, leaving fans and analysts speculating on whether he will extend his career, move to another team, or retire.

When asked about his plans after the game, James remained vague. He said he does not know what the future holds and explained that he will take time to recalibrate with his family before making any decision. He noted that his choice may depend on whether he can remain fully committed to the demanding preparation process required to compete at the highest level.

The veteran superstar also acknowledged that he has nothing left to prove after a career filled with historic milestones and records. He said competing for championships remains a motivating factor.

Meanwhile, the reigning NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder look ahead to the Western Conference finals. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the Thunder with 35 points in the series-clinching victory. They will face either the San Antonio Spurs or the Minnesota Timberwolves, who are tied 2–2.

In the Eastern Conference semifinals, Donovan Mitchell tied an NBA playoff record by scoring 39 points in the second half to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 112–103 win over the Detroit Pistons, evening the series at 2–2. Mitchell finished with 43 points and apologised to his teammates for a slow first half before taking over after the break. The series now heads back to Detroit for game five.
