119 AK-47 bullets found hidden in sack near Gombe graveyard

The Gombe State Police Command has recovered 119 rounds of 7.62mm AK-47 live ammunition concealed in a sack along Kalshingi Road in Kwadon, Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Area.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, said the recovery followed credible intelligence received by the Divisional Police Officer of Kwadon Division at about 10:30 am on May 19, 2026.

According to Abdullahi, the information indicated that a suspicious white sack had been hidden under a tree opposite a graveyard along the road.

“Upon receipt of the information, the Divisional Police Officer promptly led a team of detectives to the scene where the sack was recovered and searched,” he said.

Items found inside the sack included 119 rounds of AK-47 live ammunition, two empty ammunition packets, two bottles containing moringa seeds, and one green bag.

The police spokesperson added that operatives combed the surrounding bushes and adjoining areas after the discovery, but no suspect has been arrested so far.

Abdullahi said the command has intensified monitoring and surveillance in the area while investigations continue to identify and apprehend those responsible for concealing the ammunition.

The Commissioner of Police, Bello Yahaya, commended members of the public for providing timely information and urged residents to remain vigilant. He also appealed to citizens to continue sharing useful intelligence with security agencies to help protect lives and property across the state.
