Abia nursing student found beheaded in Imo apartment

Panic has gripped the Umulogho community in Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State after a female student of the College of Nursing, Umuadara Umulogho, was found beheaded in her room.

The victim, identified as Wendy Achumba, a native of Ngwa in Abia State, was discovered on Thursday evening after neighbours became concerned when she failed to come out or respond to repeated calls.

Sources in the community said the deceased had completed her midwifery programme and was undergoing post-basic training at the institution.

A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said neighbours forced their way into her room after several unsuccessful attempts to reach her, only to find her lifeless body with her head severed. According to the source, the door was still firmly locked from the inside with the key, while the victim’s mobile phone was missing.

Another resident, identified simply as Ike, expressed shock, noting that the deceased was seen alive a day earlier. He also said there were no signs of rape.

The incident has thrown the community into fear, and students of the college were said to be in a state of panic. Tension reportedly heightened when angry youths confronted policemen who arrived at the scene. As of the time of filing this report, the corpse had yet to be evacuated to the morgue.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, DSP Henry Okoye, said investigations had commenced.

According to Okoye, the Divisional Police Officer and operatives promptly visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment. The body was recovered and deposited in the morgue.

He appealed to students and members of the public to remain calm, assuring them that the situation is under control and that every effort is being made to bring those responsible to justice.
