APC Set to Hand Over Presidential Ticket, Flag to Tinubu on Sunday

President Bola Tinubu will be presented with the All Progressives Congress (APC) Certificate of Return and party flag as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election on Sunday.

The event follows the completion of the party’s direct primary election, which took place across all 8,809 wards nationwide on Saturday.

According to a statement released on Saturday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Presidential Primary Elections Committee will make the presentation at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja. This will happen after the nationwide collation of primary results, which currently place Tinubu ahead of his only challenger, Stanley Osifo.

Onanuga added that APC governors, members of the National Executive Committee, the National Working Committee, the National Assembly, and other party stalwarts are expected to attend.

Tinubu contested the primary against Osifo, a businessman from Edo State, who was the only other aspirant to buy the N100 million nomination form following the collapse of a planned consensus arrangement.

The primary was conducted through direct voting in every ward across the country, a first in the party’s history. This followed the Electoral Act 2026, signed by Tinubu in February, which requires parties to use either consensus or direct primary methods.

Tinubu cast his vote on Saturday at his Ward L2 polling unit in Ikoyi-Obalende, Lagos, alongside the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu. He was received by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos APC chairman, and other senior party figures. The President described the exercise as “a demonstration of internal democracy” and expressed satisfaction with how governors managed the process in their states.

Sunday’s presentation will formally launch Tinubu’s 2027 campaign after securing the ruling party’s ticket.
