First Lady Oluremi Tinubu backs Ekiti governor’s re-election, donates N100m to women
The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has rallied support for the re-election of Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji ahead of the June 20 governorship election. She also announced a N100 million empowerment grant for 2,000 women in the state.
Speaking at a women’s gathering held at the Ekitikete Pavilion in Ado Ekiti on Saturday, the First Lady thanked residents for their backing of the governor’s administration and urged them to vote for him in the upcoming poll.
She also disclosed that each of the 2,000 female beneficiaries would receive N50,000 as a grant to support their businesses, clarifying that the funds were not a loan but a direct empowerment initiative.
Mrs Tinubu further stated that she would return to the state to campaign for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, expressing optimism that the country would see more progress if the President secures a second term.
Earlier in the day, the First Lady inaugurated an Information and Communication Technology Centre at Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, which was facilitated through her Renewed Hope Initiative.
The Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, also addressed the gathering, encouraging women in the state to continue supporting the All Progressives Congress at both state and federal levels.
Governor Oyebanji’s wife, Dr Olayemi Oyebanji, thanked the women for their support and called on them to vote for her husband on June 20. She also urged them to back President Tinubu in the 2027 election.
Governor Oyebanji described the First Lady’s visit and interventions as proof of her dedication to the welfare of Nigerians.
He expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his administration’s support, noting that federal assistance had contributed significantly to his government’s achievements in healthcare, road construction, employment, and other sectors.
He added that residents of the state would reciprocate by supporting the President in the 2027 election.
