Ogun Polo Club Trains 120 Youths in AI, Coding to Mark Anniversary
The Abeokuta Polo Club has trained 120 young people in artificial intelligence, coding, and web development as part of activities to commemorate its first anniversary.
The club’s President, Dr Sheriff Abdulrahman, disclosed this on Monday while declaring open the three-day training programme in Abeokuta. He emphasised the need for youths to embrace cutting-edge technologies to enhance the nation’s digital economy.
According to him, digitally empowered young people would be able to play active roles in the emerging economy and harness its potential while building a great future for themselves.
Dr Abdulrahman stated that one of the core mandates of the club, since its establishment last year, was to complement government efforts in making life better for the people, hence the decision to organise the digital training.
He noted that the future belongs to those who possess the knowledge and skills to leverage technology for economic growth, entrepreneurship, and societal advancement. He added that the club is passionate about creating opportunities that equip young people with relevant digital skills to compete and thrive in a rapidly evolving world.
The president also reaffirmed the club’s commitment to partnering with the Ogun State Government and other stakeholders in promoting youth development through effective public-private partnerships. He encouraged participants to engage actively, stating that the knowledge gained could become the foundation for remarkable achievements.
He further announced that the 10 best participants from the training would be given instruction in horse riding and supported to become polo players.
The club’s ICT and Welfare Officer, Mr Samuel Omotoso, who is also the Registrar of Chrisland University, said the essence of the training was to invest in the youth and prepare them to meet contemporary digital needs.
A founding member of the club, Chief Abiodun Lasile, described the training as invaluable and essential for empowering young people to strengthen their digital skills and contribute to the nation’s growing economy.
