Akpabio Visits Buhari’s Family in Daura to Offer Final Condolences

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has paid a condolence visit to the family of late President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina State, following the elder statesman’s death in London on Sunday, July 13.

The condolence call took place on Wednesday, as Nigeria continues to mourn the passing of its former military and civilian leader. Buhari, aged 82, died at a London clinic after a period of illness.

His remains were flown into Nigeria on Tuesday by Vice President Kashim Shettima and Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila. President Bola Tinubu led a federal delegation to receive the body at Katsina Airport.

Buhari was buried in his hometown of Daura in accordance with Islamic rites and was honoured with full military burial protocols, including a 21-gun salute.

During the engagement, the Senate President extended sympathies on behalf of the National Assembly and the Nigerian people, acknowledging Buhari’s role in shaping the country’s political evolution.

Buhari ruled Nigeria first as a military Head of State between 1983 and 1985, and later as a democratically elected President from 2015 to 2023.

His burial has drawn tributes from across Nigeria’s political spectrum, with leaders and citizens highlighting his public service record, personal discipline, and commitment to national security.

The condolence visit is part of a series of tributes expected in the days ahead, as government officials, political allies, and members of the diplomatic corps continue to pay their respects.
