Amotekun Arrests 16 Suspected Bandits in Ekiti, Allegedly From Kwara
Sixteen individuals suspected to be bandits have been arrested by the Ekiti State Amotekun Corps after allegedly entering the state from neighboring Kwara.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by Amotekun Information Officer Adewale Adeleye, the suspects were apprehended on Wednesday at the Gede Farm Settlement in Isan Ekiti, Oye Local Government Area. They were reportedly sighted in large numbers with cattle, causing alarm among local residents.
“The suspects, who appeared as herdsmen, were apprehended alongside their cattle,” Adeleye stated. He explained that after receiving reports from concerned community members, Amotekun operatives reinforced from the Oye Local Government Command to conduct the operation.
During interrogation, the suspects allegedly disclosed that they had migrated from Kwara State without clear purpose and were accused of involvement in cattle theft from herds in the neighboring state.
Items recovered from the group included cash, seven Tecno mobile phones, charms, and three vigilante group identity cards. The suspects have since been handed over to the Ekiti State Police Command’s Rapid Response Squad in Ado-Ekiti for further investigation and possible prosecution.
