Anambra Police Arrest Man for Alleged Murder of Girlfriend

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old man, Chibuike Anikpe, for the alleged murder of his 35-year-old girlfriend, Ogochukwu Mmadubugwu.

According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspect was apprehended on January 7 by operatives from the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka.

During interrogation, Anikpe confessed to stabbing the victim in the neck on December 9, 2025. He cited suspicion of infidelity and claimed his significant financial investment in the relationship had left him bankrupt and emotionally distressed.

Ikenga clarified that earlier rumors suggesting the crime was committed by the suspect’s creditors were false. The police revealed that Anikpe had attempted to mislead investigators by leaving a fake kidnapping note at the scene.

The command stated that the suspect will be charged to court after the completion of the investigation. It also urged the public to seek peaceful means of resolving disputes and to report signs of domestic violence to authorities.
