Bago Calls for Greater Christian Participation in Politics

Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago, has urged Christians in the state to become more actively involved in politics, saying greater participation would enhance their chances of securing leadership positions and political appointments.

The governor, represented by the Coordinator of Christian Affairs, Pastor Isah Lawrence, said political engagement requires commitment, sacrifice and sustained involvement in the democratic process.

He noted that many Christians have remained on the sidelines of political activities over the years, stressing that active participation is necessary for any group seeking stronger representation in government and decision-making.

Bago encouraged Christians to unite around common interests and take advantage of opportunities within the political space, arguing that appointments and elective positions often reflect the level of contribution and involvement demonstrated by stakeholders.

He further assured the Christian community that those who play active roles in political activities would be recognised and carried along in future governance processes.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria in Niger State, Pastor PeteRock Sadiq, urged Christians to complement their prayers with responsible civic engagement, maintaining that the church has a duty to contribute positively to national development.

Sadiq said the church remains a moral institution rather than a political platform but cannot afford to be indifferent to issues affecting governance and society.

He called for fairness, inclusiveness and equal opportunities for all religious and ethnic groups in political appointments and leadership positions across the state.

The cleric also encouraged eligible voters to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards and verify their details on the voter register, stressing that active participation in the electoral process remains vital to strengthening democracy and ensuring effective representation.
