Bauchi: Police Arrest Suspect With 64 Bottles of Illicit Methylene Chloride
Operatives of the Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU) of the Bauchi State Police Command have arrested a 23-year-old man and recovered 64 bottles of Methylene Chloride, locally known as “Suck and Die”, and 17 pieces of Rubber Solutions.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, SP Nafiu Habib, stated this in a press release on Wednesday, saying the arrest was made on Tuesday, 25th August 2026 at about 5:00pm. According to SP Habib, the suspect was apprehended at Bayan Gari area in Bauchi metropolis during a routine intelligence-led operation.
He explained that the suspect was identified as Aliyu Suleman of Tudun Salmanu, Bauchi, and the exhibits found on him during a search have since been registered. The PPRO said that the suspect is in custody and cooperating with investigators, and will be charged in court at the conclusion of the investigation.
Reacting to the arrest, the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, said the Command remains committed to tackling drug abuse and protecting public health across the state. “The Command’s resolve to clamp down on the distribution and abuse of harmful substances is unwavering,” CP Aliyu stated.
He directed all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to intensify surveillance and operations aimed at dismantling networks involved in the sale and abuse of such illicit drugs. The Commissioner also called on parents, guardians and community stakeholders to remain vigilant and provide timely information to the police, noting that the fight against drug and substance abuse requires a collective approach.
