Bayelsa Governor Commends Construction Pace on Nembe-Brass Road Project

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has expressed strong satisfaction with the ongoing construction of the 21-kilometre first phase of the Nembe-Brass Road project, describing it as a major breakthrough for the region’s riverine communities.

Inspecting the construction site on Wednesday, Governor Diri highlighted that building a road through difficult terrain, including deep mangrove forests and rivers, demonstrates his administration’s commitment to connecting previously isolated areas in the state’s Eastern Senatorial District.

Accompanied by the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Moses Teibowei, the governor inspected an asphalted 10-kilometre stretch of the road and its three completed bridges. The delegation then crossed the river via barge to evaluate a separate 10-kilometre section that has successfully undergone soil stabilization.

Governor Diri assured stakeholders that the project remains adequately funded and will be completed within the agreed timeline. He also extended appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for awarding the contract for the second phase of the project, allowing federal and state works to progress simultaneously.

“The importance of this road cannot be overemphasized,” Diri stated, noting that the infrastructure will significantly boost local economies and help curb sea piracy in the area once fully operational.

Providing a technical update, Commissioner Teibowei stated that the most challenging structural phases of the project have been successfully resolved. He added that a fifth bridge currently under construction is slated for completion within three months.

Mr. Jose Cosme, the South-South Area Manager for the project’s contractor, Setraco Construction Company, confirmed that Phase One of the road is on track to be fully completed by December 2026.
