Court Dismisses NDLEA’s Bid to Keep Lagos Nightclub Sealed
A Federal High Court in Lagos has dismissed an application by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) seeking to maintain the closure of Proxy Night Club on Victoria Island.
Justice Lewis-Allagoa, in a ruling on Wednesday, refused the agency’s request to stay the execution of a December 5, 2025, order that had directed the nightclub be unsealed and reopened.
The judge ruled that the NDLEA failed to demonstrate the “special and exceptional circumstances” required by law to grant such a stay. He noted a “crucial lapse” in the application and found it to be an abuse of court process.
The case stems from an NDLEA raid on the club in October 2025, leading to arrests and drug-related charges against the club’s owner, socialite Mike Nwogu (aka Pretty Mike), and others. The court had previously ordered the property unsealed on November 28, 2025, citing the constitutional presumption of innocence.
In a related order, the judge granted permission for contempt proceedings to be served on the NDLEA Chairman by substituted means, urging the agency’s compliance with the court’s earlier directives.
The trial has been adjourned to February 2026.
