Cross River North to Get University, Better Power Supply as Otu Unveils Development Plans

Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, has assured residents of the Northern Senatorial District that his administration will intensify efforts to address key development challenges through investments in education, infrastructure, electricity and economic growth.

The governor gave the assurance during a stakeholders’ meeting in Ogoja, where community leaders and political representatives highlighted pressing concerns affecting the region.

Top on the list of demands were the construction and rehabilitation of roads and bridges, the establishment of a university in Cross River North, improved electricity supply and the revival of strategic economic projects.

Responding to the concerns, Otu said his administration remained committed to delivering projects that would have a lasting impact on the lives of residents and strengthen economic activities across the district.

He noted that damaged and aging bridges connecting several communities would receive urgent attention, stressing that reliable transport infrastructure is essential for trade, movement and social development.

The governor also reaffirmed plans to establish a university in the northern part of the state, describing the project as a key component of his administration’s development agenda. He explained that efforts were ongoing to satisfy the necessary requirements for the institution, adding that significant progress had already been recorded.

Otu further announced plans to revive the Okuku International Market, which he described as a vital commercial centre capable of boosting local trade and creating opportunities for businesses and farmers. He said supporting road projects would also be executed to improve access to the market and surrounding communities.

On electricity, the governor acknowledged the persistent power challenges facing the district and said engagements were ongoing to secure lasting solutions. According to him, improved electricity supply is critical to attracting investment, supporting businesses and driving industrial growth.
