David Mark Hails Atiku Victory in ADC Primary

The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, has reacted to the emergence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

Senator David Mar Atiku ADC reaction came during the official collation and declaration of results in Abuja, where he praised the exercise as a demonstration of internal democracy within the party.

Mark said Atiku Abubakar’s victory reflected the ADC’s commitment to fairness, competition, and transparent political processes.

He stated that the primary was not only about selecting a flagbearer but also about proving that democratic practice could still function effectively within Nigerian political parties.

According to him, the ADC deliberately avoided imposition, allowing delegates to freely choose their preferred candidate without elite interference

He added that the party is not controlled by a few powerful interests, but operates on principles of inclusion and participation.

The ADC chairman congratulated Atiku Abubakar on his victory and urged him to unite all members of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He also encouraged the former Vice President to build bridges across all factions within the party to strengthen cohesion ahead of the polls.

Mark commended former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi and former Nigeria Economic Summit Group chairman Mohammed Hayatu-Deen for participating in the contest.

He described their involvement as an important contribution to strengthening internal democracy within the ADC.

Mark further revealed that he met privately with all three aspirants before the primary, urging them to prioritise national interest over personal ambition.

He acknowledged the logistical challenges of conducting nationwide direct primaries but insisted that the process remained credible and transparent.

The ADC chairman described the party as a social democratic platform focused on improving the welfare of ordinary Nigerians.

He added that the 2027 elections would be critical, given current economic hardship, insecurity, and declining public trust in leadership

Mark called on party members to remain united behind Atiku Abubakar as the ADC prepares for the general elections, stressing that the outcome should reflect fairness, inclusion, and democratic integrity.
