Delta Governor Mourns Victims of Warri-Itakpe Train Derailment
Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has expressed deep sorrow over a fatal train derailment in Agbor, located within the Ika South Local Government Area, which resulted in multiple fatalities and left numerous passengers injured
Describing the incident as tragic and heartbreaking, Governor Oborevwori extended his condolences to the affected families. He stated that the state government immediately mobilized emergency response teams and security agencies to coordinate rescue operations and secure the scene
According to local authorities, at least 35 injured passengers are currently receiving medical attention across three regional facilities: 13 victims at the Central Hospital in Agbor, 12 at the General Hospital in Owa-Oyibu, and 10 at the General Hospital in Owa-Alero. Uninjured passengers were evacuated from the site using government-deployed buses, and efforts to clear the affected train from the tracks are underway
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) and the Presidency confirmed the serious accident along the Warri–Itakpe Train Service (WITS) corridor, stating that all passengers have been accounted for while relevant authorities continue to investigate the cause of the derailment.
