Delta police arrest four suspects over fake dollar notes, recover 1,600 counterfeit bills
Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested four suspected fraudsters found in possession of 1,600 counterfeit United States dollar notes.
In a separate operation, two women were also apprehended with large quantities of illicit substances, including cannabis and Colorado.
The arrests followed intelligence-led operations conducted on June 9 and June 10 in different parts of the state.
On June 9, personnel of the Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit began surveillance on a five-man syndicate reportedly using fake dollar bills to defraud members of the public while moving in an unregistered Mercedes-Benz GLK SUV. The operation led to the arrest of four suspects along Nnebisi Road, Asaba. They were identified as Joshua Nwaosa, Daniel Arhewe, Prince Chukwuma, and John Egwuba.
During questioning, the suspects confessed to operating from a hideout within Asaba. A search of the location uncovered 1,600 counterfeit US dollar notes and military camouflage clothing.
The following day, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit raided Owaliru and Alihame communities in Ika North-East Local Government Area. Two female suspects, Ifeoma Egbule, 36, and Anayeokwu Florence, 51, were arrested with substantial amounts of GH Gold, Colorado, cannabis, and Canadian Loud.
Preliminary investigations indicate both women were involved in distributing prohibited substances in the area. Efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the drug network.
The state Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, praised the operatives for their professionalism and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks across Delta State.
