Ebonyi Governor Sacks 64 Coordinators, Over 100 Board Members

David Umahi, governor of Ebonyi state has sacked 64 development centre coordinators and over 100 board members and commissions.

Umahi disclosed this in a statement signed and issued to newsmen in Abakaliki by the Secretary to the State government, SSG, and Coordinating Commissioner, Mr. Ugbala Kenneth Igwe.

The statement reads in parts:“The Governor of Ebonyi State, David Nweze Umahi, has approved immediate dissolution of Boards, Commissions, and Development Centre Coordinators, except Ebonyi State University Governing Council.

“The governor, however, tasked the sacked development centre coordinators to hand over all government property in their possession, including their official vehicles, to the office of the Secretary to the State Government and Coordinating Commissioner, on or before the close of work on Tuesday, 21st March 2023.

“Similarly, the Boards and Commissions are as well tasked to hand over government property in their possession to their parent Ministries on or before the close of work on Tuesday, 21st March 2023.”

Umahi further revealed the preparedness of his government to constitute a transition committee who, according to him, “will advise the Government whether to reconstitute, the Boards, Commissions and Development Centre Coordinators or leaves it for the incoming administration.”

The governor also noted that he had taken note of members of the Boards, Commissions and Development Centre Coordinators who served very well in their various offices and would accommodate them during reconstitution.

Six LP lawmakers defect to PDP in Enugu

Six members of the Labour Party (LP) from the Enugu State House of Assembly,  have officially defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

They made their defection known on Thursday in Enugu, in a letter read by the Speaker, Chief Uche Ugwu, during the plenary at the Assembly Legislative Complex.

Those who defected are; Ejike Eze, (Igbo-Eze North 1);  Johnson Ugwu (Enugu North) Princess Ugwu (Enugu South Rural) Pius Ezeugwu (Nsukka West) Amuka Williams (Igbo-Etiti East) Osita Eze (Oji River).

According to the defectors, the move resulted from the “existence of irreconcilable division, an ongoing crisis within the labour party at the national level, and across all the state chapters.

“Regrettably, the party has evolved into a state of perpetual discord with various factions embroiled in legal battles thereby undermining its ability to effectively serve the interest of the people.

“The Labour Party once a beacon of hope for progressive ideas, have regrettably become synonymous with internal squabbles, thereby reducing its capacity to fulfil the aspirations of electorates.

The defectors expressed their optimism, that their new party, PDP, will give them the platform to serve their people committedly.
