Edo Command Arrests 10 For Violent Crimes, Neutralises Suspected Kidnapper

The Edo State Police Command says it arrested 10 suspects for violent crimes, neutralised one suspected kidnapper and recovered arms and ammunition in intelligence-led operations in the past week.

Police Public Relations Officer, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Patrick Daaor, disclosed this at a press briefing on Monday.

According to the Command, operatives recovered one AK-47 rifle, 10 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, one Beretta pistol and 14 rounds of 9mm live ammunition.

Giving a breakdown, the Command said:

1. Abduction case:* On September 12, 2026, police received information on the alleged abduction of five female children from the Ibillo/Imoga axis of Akoko-Edo LGA. A 50-year-old suspect, Nicholas Nusa, was arrested. The Command said the children have been reunited with their families, while investigation continues.

2. Suspected kidnapper:* On September 8, operatives arrested Sunday Irabor at Efe Classic Crown Hotel, near Oluku Market. Items recovered included three mobile phones, a Samsung tablet, a wristwatch and cash. Police said investigation is ongoing.

3. Stolen vehicles:* On September 7, police received a report of a stolen Toyota Camry 2.2, with registration number BEN 572 BT. Operatives tracked and arrested the suspect, identified as the complainant’s driver, Isiaka Suleiman, in Warri, Delta State, and recovered the vehicle.

In a related case on September 17, operatives of Iguobazuwa Division, during a stop-and-search, recovered a silver Toyota Corolla, registration number GGE 675 KR, belonging to Yikodeen Company Limited, which was allegedly stolen from Lagos State. The driver, 21-year-old Ahmed Musa Abubakar, was arrested.

4. Arms recovery:* On September 17, based on credible intelligence, operatives raided the premises of Collins Aligwekwe, 28, at No. 4 Sofia Street, Ovbiogie Community, and recovered one Beretta pistol and 14 rounds of 9mm ammunition. One Godstime Erohuomhea, 28, was also arrested.

5. Gun duel with suspected kidnappers:* On September 15, following a distress call from community leaders, operatives, in collaboration with Edo State Security Corps and local hunters, mobilised to a farm road. The Command said suspected kidnappers opened fire, leading to a gun duel in which one suspect was neutralised. One AK-47 rifle with 10 rounds of ammunition was recovered.

6. Military impersonator:* On September 16, personnel of 195 Battalion, Aganebode, arrested Mohammed Manfred Abdulramah, 32, of Okene, Kogi State, along the Auchi-Okene Expressway for alleged impersonation. He was found in military camouflage.

The Commissioner of Police reiterated the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and urged members of the public to provide credible information to assist security operations.
