Eziudo Hosts 2026 Oji Ezinihitte Festival, Marked by Federal Recognition and Cultural Showcase

The ancient town of Eziudo celebrated the preservation of culture and tradition as it hosted the 2026 Oji Ezinihitte festival, introducing new dimensions to the annual event following its recent endorsement by the Federal Government.

The festival, held on January 1 across towns in Ezinihitte, commenced with night praise at Town School Eziudo and featured a vibrant exhibition of diverse cultures. Highlights included performances by Ebube Pericoma Izuogu, the Ohafia war dance, and other cultural displays, elevating this year’s celebration.

A significant development was the formal recognition of Oji Ezinihitte by the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC), secured through the efforts of an Eziudo indigene.

In his address, the President General of Eziudo Central Development Union, Bartholomew-Peters Anayo Nwokocha, praised the unprecedented variety of activities and commended community efforts. He also called on the Imo State Government, led by Senator Hope Uzodimma, to improve rural road access and extend urban renewal benefits to local communities.

Chairman of the Central Working Committee, Chidubem Orji, emphasized that the innovations introduced this year aimed to add color and glamour, setting a new standard for future hosts.

The event was attended by notable figures including former Governor Emeka Ihedioha, House of Representatives member Rt. Hon. Emeka Chinedu, actor Kanayo O. Kanayo, and other government officials and dignitaries.

The Oji Ezinihitte cultural festival has been celebrated since 1954.
