FG Orders Security Overhaul at NIPSS Following Gunmen Intrusion

The Federal Government has ordered an immediate overhaul of the security architecture at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, Plateau State, as well as other strategic national installations across the country. The directive follows a violent security breach by gunmen at the nation’s premier policy and strategic institution.

Vice President Kashim Shettima announced the security review during an official visit to the institute, where he met with management, staff, and Senior Executive Course 48 participants. The visit came four days after attackers invaded the facility in the early hours of Tuesday, killing three security personnel before responding operatives repelled the assault and restored order.

The impending security upgrades at NIPSS and similar critical facilities will feature a comprehensive modernization plan. Immediate structural improvements will include reinforced perimeter fencing, tighter access control protocols, upgraded surveillance systems, and the deployment of additional security forces. The government has vowed that those responsible for the fatal breach will be tracked down and held accountable.

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang confirmed that the state government is actively collaborating with federal security agencies to protect the Kuru axis, which houses a high concentration of national institutions. The state’s immediate supportive measures include providing additional patrol vehicles, improving area lighting, and upgrading local surveillance infrastructure.

NIPSS Director-General Prof. Ayo Omotayo stated that the facility immediately activated emergency security protocols following the attack.

He emphasized that despite the breach, the academic and research mandates of the institute which regularly hosts senior government officials, diplomats, and security chiefs will continue uninterrupted. Joint interventions by state and federal authorities will now focus heavily on rectifying vulnerabilities in infrastructure, intelligence gathering, and rapid response capabilities to prevent future incidents.
