Governor Eno Asks Oron Leaders to Resolve Disputes Stalling Ibom Deep Seaport

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has called on elders and stakeholders from the Oron region to caution local youths against disrupting international investors preparing to kickstart the Ibom Deep Seaport project.

The multi-billion naira infrastructure development, originally named the Ibaka Deep Sea Port, has faced prolonged delays due to local friction over its relocation and rebranding by the state government.

Speaking at the monthly Government House prayer service in Uyo over the weekend, Governor Eno emphasized that arguments over naming rights and exact zoning should not cost the community a major economic lifeline. He urged leaders to seize the current opportunity to bring massive development to the area.

Drawing a parallel with the Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo, the governor noted that the neighboring local government areas that donated land for the aviation facility never halted progress over nomenclature disputes.

Governor Eno maintained that the state is on track for a major economic turnaround, dismissing critics and highlighting several upcoming project commissions. He announced that on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, the state will unveil the Ibom Medical Village a 350-bed international healthcare hub.

Additionally, the governor provided an update on the state’s transport intervention, confirming that out of 50 fully prepaid Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses ordered to ease public commuting, a first batch of 20 vehicles has already arrived at the Lagos port.
