Governor Fubara Submits 2026/2028 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework to Rivers Assembly
Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has officially transmitted the 2026/2028 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) to the Rivers State House of Assembly for legislative review and approval.
The document was received by the Speaker of the House, Martin Amaewhule, during an emergency plenary session held on Thursday morning. Despite the importance of the fiscal document, lawmakers opted to defer the debate on the framework, choosing instead to adjourn the sitting until a later date.
This session marked a rare assembly of the legislators, who last met in February to screen a list of commissioner-nominees proposed by the governor. Prior to that, the House had experienced a period of relative inactivity following a volatile start to the year. On January 8, 2026, the assembly had initiated impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara, a move that set the stage for subsequent political friction and led to the lawmakers failing to reconvene on their scheduled resumption date in mid-February.
The submission of the MTEF is a constitutional requirement for fiscal planning, serving as the foundation for the state’s budget estimates. Further updates on the legislative deliberations regarding this framework are expected in the coming days.
