Housewife Arrested for Attempted Murder in Katsina; Police Foil Bandit Attack

The Katsina State Police Command has taken a 23-year-old woman, Sadiya Lawal, into custody following an alleged attempt on her husband’s life. The incident occurred in the Katsina metropolis on the morning of June 29, 2026, when the suspect reportedly attacked her husband, Jamilu Ibrahim, with a knife while he was sleeping.

The victim sustained a deep neck injury during the assault and was transported to a nearby medical facility, where he is currently receiving treatment. Law enforcement officials arrived at the scene shortly after the attack, where they apprehended the suspect and recovered the weapon used in the incident. The suspect remains in police custody and is expected to face charges once the investigation is finalized.

In a separate development, police in Katsina also successfully repelled an armed bandit attack in the Dandume Local Government Area. On June 28, 2026, authorities received a distress call regarding a large group of armed individuals on motorcycles traveling along the Kadisau-Sheme Road.

In response, the Divisional Police Officer mobilized members of the Violent Crimes Response Unit and the Katsina State Community Watch Corps. The security team engaged the armed group in a gun battle, eventually forcing them to retreat. During their escape, the suspects abandoned two motorcycles and a machete, which were seized by the police as evidence.

The Katsina State Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Umar Fage, commended the officers for their swift action in addressing the bandit threat. He further emphasized the command’s commitment to public safety and urged residents to prioritize peaceful conflict resolution, particularly regarding domestic disputes.
