“I Didn’t Know PDP Still Exists” – Akpabio Mocks Opposition Party at Abuja Event

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has mocked the Peoples Democratic Party, expressing surprise that the opposition party still exists and urging FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to allow it to “die.”

Akpabio made the remark on Wednesday while representing President Bola Tinubu at the inauguration of Akinwumi Ajibola Street in Gaduwa District, Abuja.

The Senate President’s comment came as he acknowledged dignitaries at the event, including Senator Olaka Nwogu, who recently won the Rivers South-East Senatorial District by-election on the PDP platform.

“Senator Olaka Nwogu, who, to my understanding, just won an election. I didn’t know there was still PDP. I am sure he is somewhere, and so many other distinguished senators, members of the working committee of the APC,” Akpabio said.

He added directly to Wike: “Stop confusing us. If a party has died, allow it to die. Like I said, anything that has died has died.”

Nwogu was declared winner of the by-election by INEC after securing 47,961 votes, defeating APC candidate Osar Erewari who polled 1,647 votes. The election was conducted following the death of Senator Barry Mpigi in February.

Akpabio also commended Wike for his performance as FCT Minister, noting that the transformation of Abuja under his leadership had impressed many Nigerians.

“The performing Minister of the FCT, who has made his predecessors look like they came to drink tea in Abuja. All these things they are doing, I can tell you people are baffled. You and the President are performing miracles here,” he stated.

Wike, a PDP member serving in the APC-led administration, has continued to face internal opposition within his party over his role in the Federal Government.
