Imo Police Arrest Suspect in Teen Defilement Case, Discipline Officers Accused of Extortion
The Imo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 24-year-old man, Wisdom Onyeaju, in connection with the alleged defilement of a 15-year-old girl in Owerri West Local Government Area.
The arrest followed a social media video in which the victim’s family detailed the attack and subsequent difficulties in reporting it. According to the initial report, officers at the station demanded N100,000 before taking any action.
Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, stated that the suspect is in custody and under investigation, pending arraignment in court.
In response to the extortion allegations, the command has identified the officers involved as Inspectors Charles Abaneke and Aweleka Cordelia. An orderly room trial for their alleged misconduct is scheduled to begin on January 12, 2026.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism and accountability, assuring the public that justice will be served in the matter.
