INEC Guarantees Credible Governorship Election in Ekiti, Deploys Strict Anti-Fraud Technology

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured the people of Ekiti State that the upcoming June 20 governorship election will be completely transparent, secure, and operationally seamless.

Speaking at a major stakeholders’ meeting in Ado Ekiti, the commission’s leadership confirmed that extensive logistical, technological, and operational safeguards have been finalized to ensure a fair contest. The state has a total of 1,059,360 registered voters who are expected to cast their ballots across 16 local government areas, 117 wards, and 2,445 polling units.

To secure the integrity of the vote, officials announced that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) will serve as the sole mechanism for voter authentication. The commission emphasized that it will strictly enforce the “No Permanent Voter Card (PVC), No Accreditation, No Voting” policy, with absolutely no exceptions or manual bypasses permitted.

Additionally, to ensure widespread transparency, all polling-level results will be uploaded directly to the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV) in real time as soon as voting concludes.

Crackdown on Vote Buying and Political Thuggery

A major focus of the commission’s strategy is eliminating financial inducement at the polls. INEC is partnering directly with anti-graft agencies, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), to deter and arrest anyone participating in vote trading.

Field personnel and security forces have been given strict directives to keep the immediate perimeter of all 2,445 polling units completely insulated from financial influence, protecting the ballot from both physical violence and fiscal manipulation.

Working alongside the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, officials have mapped out local vulnerabilities across the state to neutralize potential threats from political thuggery, cultism, or ballot disruption. Security operatives have been given clear orders to deal decisively with any individuals attempting to compromise the peace, regardless of their political status.

Focus on Inclusivity and Logistical Timelines

The election will also feature enhanced accessibility measures for voters with specific needs. The commission is deploying assistive technologies including Braille ballot guides and magnifying glasses to ensure that persons living with disabilities and albinism can exercise their franchise comfortably.

Logistical arrangements with transport providers are currently being finalized to guarantee that all polling units across the state open simultaneously at exactly 8:30 AM on election day.

Reiterating its position as an unbiased umpire, the commission’s leadership stressed that it answers to no political interest and holds no preferred candidate, alignment being solely with the rule of law.

Political parties and media practitioners were urged to act responsibly, de-escalate aggressive rhetoric, and report events with strict professional fairness to maintain public trust throughout the democratic process.
