Jigawa Court Sentences Man to Death for Raping 15-Year-Old Boy
In the ruling delivered on Thursday, Hon. Justice Ado Yusif Birnin Kudu also ordered the convict to pay ₦5 million in compensation to the victim.
The case, which was first filed in March 2022, was prosecuted under the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law, a legislation that broadened the state’s definition of rape to include same-sex assault.
The prosecution counsel, led by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Yahaya Abdullahi, described the judgement as “sound and just,” stating it would serve as a deterrent to others.
Officials from the Jigawa State Judiciary praised the verdict, reaffirming the government’s commitment to implementing laws designed to protect citizens from violence. The convict has been remanded in custody pending further legal steps.
