Kaduna Teacher Lynched by Mob Following False Kidnapping Allegations

The Muslim Public Affairs Centre (MPAC) has strongly condemned the brutal killing of Ummulkhairi, a teacher, wife, and mother of four, who was lynched by a mob in Maraban Jos, Kaduna State, based on unverified allegations of child kidnapping.

The incident, which has sparked widespread outrage, saw the victim forcibly removed from what was described as lawful custody before being murdered. Advocates and observers have labeled the event an act of “organized savagery,” noting that the victim was denied due process and constitutional protections.

MPAC officials expressed deep concern over the breakdown of civil order, stating that no allegation—regardless of its severity—justifies mob execution. The group emphasized that allowing suspicion to replace the rule of law threatens the stability of the entire nation and warned against a growing culture where rumors are allowed to incite lethal violence.

Furthermore, there is mounting scrutiny regarding the role of law enforcement during the incident. While official channels have denied involvement, there are conflicting reports about the actions of security personnel at the time the victim was detained.

In response to the tragedy, authorities are facing urgent demands for a transparent and independent investigation into the conduct of all security officers and community members present. Calls have been made for the immediate arrest and prosecution of those involved, as well as for the government to provide welfare and support to the victim’s surviving children.

This incident is being viewed as a critical test for state institutions, with community leaders warning that failing to ensure justice will only embolden further acts of vigilante violence and deepen public distrust in the nation’s justice system.
